MASON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey has declared a State of Emergency for Mason County due to recent flooding.

In a statement released Thursday from his office, Morrisey said it stems from flooding which started Thursday, Sept. 10.

Officials said severe weather triggered a massive landslide near the Kanawha Street levee culvert in Point Pleasant, displacing about 900 cubic yards of earth.

The collapsing riverbank came within two feet of a railroad track, forcing crews to shut down the line.

State and local agencies are working to stabilize the shoreline before further erosion reaches the main rail line.
